The Pyramids of Egypt were built as the final resting places of the Pharaohs. Their four sides stood for the four directions, the four ages of man, and the four elements. Their bases cover a large area while their tops come to a single point. This symbolized the one Pharaoh ruling over the wide land. As the resting place of the Pharaohs, who were seen as the incarnations of the Sun God, Ra, the pyramids were revered as sacred objects; the meeting place of earth and sky; of humanity and the Gods. The pyramids are among the oldest man-made structures in the world, and still evoke an awe that uplifts those who see them.
